Dear Daily Bungalow

Anahiem Waikiki Motel Rendering 1960s by Miehana on Flickr.
Originally located at 631 W. Katella Avenue, the Waikiki Motel sat on the Southern edge of Disneyland’s parking lot (now a part of Disney’s California Adventure park). The motel’s owners were so proud of their location, they made sure the artist painted Disneyland right into the rendering of their property. Note the castle, Matterhorn, train station, and rocket on the horizon.
This historic image is from the 1996 Anaheim Museum exhibit “Tiki: Native Drums in the Orange Grove”, a survey of Polynesian Pop-style in Orange County, California. Curated by Los Angeles artists Kevin Kidney and Jody Daily.
